Grant Slater is a multimedia journalist based in Los Angeles, Calif. His work has appeared in The Associated Press, AFP, Global Post, The New York Post, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, The Jewish Telegraphic Agency, McClatchy Newspapers, AOL's PoliticsDaily, The Military Times and publications in his home state of Oklahoma.
He holds a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University and bachelor's degrees in journalism and Russian language from the University of Oklahoma.
He is the recipient of several awards for written journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists, the White House Correspondents' Association scholarship to attend Medill School of Journalism and was selected to participate in a visual storytelling masterclass at the VII Photo Agency in 2010.
Starting in 2007, he worked as a freelance journalist covering the countries of the former Soviet Union, traveling widely across the region. His coverage included the 2008 conflict in Georgia and the local fallout from the global financial crisis. He has reported from seven countries and, in 2010, worked as video mentor for The Tiziano Project in Iraqi Kurdistan, teaching sustainable multimedia journalism to Iraqi students. His work as a mentor and video producer with Tiziano continues today.
